- Visitors are encouraged to apply to utilize the Institutes expertise
and facilities to learn how to generate and analyze data for their research
or to train with state-of-the-art instrumentation
.
For a tour or a brief visit: please contact Theresa Fulton tf12@cornell.edu
For a working visit of one month or longer: please submit a detailed
proposal of your research plan. The proposal should include:
--The proposed research project: what you hope to accomplish, why, and
how
--Beginning and ending dates and/or length of stay for your proposed
visit
--Source and type of biological material to be used*
--Sources of funding (if applicable). Currently the only applicants being accepted without external funding are recipients of the African Scientist Fellowship Program.
Proposals will be evaluated on the basis of:
--Clarity of research goals
--Feasibility of completion in the proposed timeframe
--Amount of laboratory training and bioinformatics support needed
--Immediate impact and usefulness to the home-base research program
--Capacity of the Institute during the time the research is proposed
to be carried out
--Type and amount of funding the applicant has been granted from outside
sources. Applicants with no outside funding may still be considered
if the proposed project is of high candidacy based on the other criteria.
Preference will be given to those proposals that encourage global network
building, continued communication, education and sharing of ideas.
When proposals may be submitted:
Proposals may be submitted at any time during the year, but must be
submitted a minimum of 3 months in advance of the proposed starting
date.
Who may submit a proposal:
Any scientist or student may submit a proposal. However, the IGD has
a significant number of requests and we regret that we may not be able
to accommodate all applicants.
International visitors should contact Dianna Smith
(dle1@cornell.edu)
for information about visa requirements. See the Cornell Office
of International Students and Scholars for more information.

*All national and international regulations regarding germplasm exchange
must be respected. Living materials, phytosanitary, quarantines, and
other regulations must be followed, including those for DNA exchange
if applicable. Each applicant must provide written assurance and/or
documentation to indicate they have fully complied with these regulations
before bringing any such material to the Institute for research purposes.
