I was at IGD between February and June 2007 to develop SNP markers for CMD resistance in cassava. My experience at IGD was overwhelming and has really prepared me for future in the field of Molecular Biology. I am currently a Ph. D. student of Department of Agronomy, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. I am at National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike where I am conducting research work on improvement of traits associated with high and early productivity of cassava [harvest index, fresh shoot weight and root number] using molecular markers. I have generated nine populations to achieve this aim and I am currently evaluating them. The main focus of the research work is to shorten the period over which farmers grow cassava to get reasonable yield and thereby increase productivity over time.
