Research: Genetic Footprints for Two Invasive Species in North America I am developing and analyzing molecular markers for the Asian longhorned beetle (ALB, Anoplophora glabripennis) from 4 populations found in the United States (New York, New Jersey, Chicago and California), 3 populations in Europe (Germany, France and Austria) a single population found in Canada (Toronto) and beetles from every province in China, to compare population structure and find source populations. I am looking in detail at the Toronto population of ALB to see if there is a genetic signature of how the population has spread throughout the landscape. A similar study and analysis is under way for the Asian stinkbug, Halyomorpha halys that was discovered in the United States (Pennsylvania and Oregon). |
