In the past, I have done research in fields relating to medical research-
signal transduction, development, yeast genetics and medical devices.
For all those years I never paid much attention to plants. However, over
the last few years I have become keenly interested in them. This interest
arose from my volunteer work restoring watersheds and controlling invasive
plants in Oakland, CA with the Friends of Sausal Creek.
When my husband and I moved here I decided that I wanted work with plants,
so I was very excited to find this job. Working on the genetics of maize
allows me use my microbiological skills and work with something that truly
intrigues me, plants. I hope to eventually integrate my volunteer interests
and this genetic knowledge of agricultural crops to better understand
wild plant populations.
