The Information Technology Services Facility which supports IT functions and clients of the Life Sciences Core Laboratories Center (LSCLC) is searching for an IT Support Assistant IV. The LSCLC provides an array of genomics, proteomics, imaging, IT and informatics shared research resources and services to the university community and to investigators at other academic institutions and commercial enterprises. LSCLC IT Services is a University Service Facility that provides IT support services to the LSCLC and to other client facilities at Cornell.
IT Services provides the daily technical support, network availability and security, technology procurement and maintenance, web hosting, and other essential IT functions needed for the daily activity of the LSCLC and client groups.
The primary responsibilities of the position are to respond quickly and effectively to support requests, and perform pro-active support required to further the mission of the LSCLC and its client units. As a member of a support team, the incumbent’s responsibilities include:
* providing direct support to a diverse group of users with daily support requests.
* install, configure and troubleshoot PC, Apple, and Linux hardware and peripherals.
* install and troubleshoot all software including operating systems and specialized research applications.
* set up, maintain and troubleshoot secondary user hardware such as printers, scanners, and PDA’s.
* ensure the prompt installation of regular operating system and security software updates as they are released.
* assist with installation and maintenance of file servers, switches and other critical networking hardware.
* research and recommend customized hardware and software solutions for client needs.
* interact directly with Cornell Information Technologies, other IT units and technology vendors as needed to solve problems.
* learn new skills/technologies as business needs dictate, including discipline-specific software.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination. Broad understanding of one or more operating systems, network environments, hardware platforms, and/or application areas. Outstanding customer service and communication skills required. Superior organizational and prioritization skills essential. Ability to work as part of a team and also complete tasks independently.
Hands-on experience with at least 2 of the following specialized IT areas: data backup/recovery, firewall configuration, hardware virtualization, RAID storage implementation, server-based patch management, cross-platform Active Directory authentication, website design and hosting, programming/scripting work.
Familiarity with the Cornell University networking environment.
Basic IT industry certifications such as CompTIAA A+, Microsoft MCP, Apple ACSP, RedHat RHCT etc.
