Congratulations on being accepted to visit the Institute for Genomic Diversity at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Below is some information to help you prepare for your visit. Download instead.
Travel arrangements: Please work with Theresa Fulton
(tf12@cornell.edu) to arrange your flights.
The closest airport is Tompkins Regional Airport in Ithaca (only USAirways, Continental, and
Northeast Airlines serve this airport though). The next closest is Hancock
International Airport at Syracuse, but this is a one-hour drive away. Another
option is to take a bus from New York City to Ithaca (a 4-hour trip but very
inexpensive).
Finances: Please plan to bring some US Dollars with you or acquire some at the airport, especially if you do not have an ATM card. If you will be receiving a stipend or reimbursement from IGD or receiving a check from an outside source, it may take a few days to receive the check and be able to cash it at a bank.
Arrival: Please inform Theres of your
arrival time and location (Ithaca or Syracuse airport). We will try to have
someone meet you at the airport, or instruct you on how to get transportation
to the apartment. If you are staying at the IGD apartment, the address is 518
Dryden Road, Ithaca, apartment A2A.
Health Insurance: Depending on the length of your
stay, Cornell University may require you to pay for health insurance during
your visit. This may be approximately $50 per month. If you have health
insurance at your home institute which will cover you during your visit here,
please bring proof of that and the costs here may be waived.
Weather: You should be aware that the temperatures in
Ithaca during the winter months (especially November – March) may be
extremely cold. If you do not bring warm clothing (including a winter coat,
gloves, hat and boots) you will need to buy some upon your arrival.
