Ghazi Badawi, our most recent African scientist fellowship winner, is here from Sudan for a 6 month visit (through Nov) working on sweet sorghum. He will present at lab meeting July 24.

Bulmaro Coutino Estrada from Chiapas, Mexico, is here for a one-month visit to work on the maize project, with Denise.

Natalia Moreno from CIAT, Colombia (Matt Blair's lab) is here for approx. 4 months (working on beans).

Upcoming visitors:

Fernanda Caniato, from Jurandir Magalhaes' lab in EMBRAPA, Brazil, will arrive in August for a 6 month visit (on sorghum).

Past:

Sharon and Theresa will teach another 2-week molecular marker training course at the University of Ghana, June 30 - July 11, 2008. Like last year, it is being funded by the Kirkhouse Trust and held at the Biotechnology Centre of the Univ of Ghana. See the tentative course agenda, and how to apply here

Jura Magalhaes from Embrapa (Brazil) will be visiting Friday, January 18.

John Eleblu, our latest African Scientist Fellowship winner, has arrived! He will work on the maize project (following up on some of Gael's data and working with Pat). John is a student at the University of Ghana, with Eric Danquah.

Theresa and Sharon are co-organizing a workshop with the University of Ghana scheduled for July 2 - 13, funded by the Kirkhouse Trust Foundation. More info here.
Andy Paterson, Director, Plant Genome Mapping Laboratory, University of Georgia, will be the PB&G seminar speaker on May 1st.
Michael Dingkuhn, French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), Ecotrop, France, will be presenting a special seminar on April 30th.

Bill Rooney from TAMU is visiting Feb 19-20. He will give the Plant Breeding seminar on Tuesday.

The next African Scientist Fellowship winner, Bunmi Olasanmi has arrived. Bunmi is a student of Martin Fregene's but located at the National Root Crops Research Inst. in Nigeria, and will work on SNP marker development in cassava during his visit.


OP Yadav of CAZRI (Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jodhour, India) is here for a 6-month visit to work on pearl millet and sorghum marker development.
